  • What items do you accept?
    We accept the following items in good condition: Casual sofas, loveseats, and chairs TV Stands Kitchen / Dinette Sets** Mattresses, box spring sets, & mattress pads (twin, double, or queen) – in very good condition please! Bed Frames: Twin, double, or queen (must be disassembled with all hardware bagged and taped to frame) Toddler beds with mattress Dressers (no top shelves or mirrors; bottoms only if applicable) Coffee and end tables** TVs – flat screen, digital ready with remote taped to it – 40” and smaller Small microwave ovens, toasters, irons, vacuum cleaners, radios, clocks, etc. All appliances must be in working condition. Clean linens and bedding: Sheets, bed blankets, comforters, towels, bath rugs (please bag in sets and label with size— twin, full, or queen) Clean area rugs (6ft.x 9ft. or smaller – rolled, tied and marked with size) Lamps – table and floor lamps Dishes, glasses, pots and pans, flatware, kitchen utensils – no crystal stemware
  • Are there any items you don't accept?
    Sectionals, formal or This End Up sofas and chairs Non-flat screen, digital ready TV’s or any TV’s more than 40” Large entertainment centers or wall units Hutches or china cabinets King-sized mattresses/box springs, waterbeds Furniture made from particle board Draperies, curtains, blinds or rods Cribs or other baby care items Wicker of any kind Exercise equipment or luggage Cleaning Items (mops, buckets, products) Hospital beds or power lift chairs Computer hardware Food, hygiene products, or clothes Books, toys, games, etc. Large appliances (washers, dryers, refrigerators, etc.) Housewares requiring installation (faucets, lighting fixtures etc.)
  • Do you accept large appliances?
    No, we do not. Please visit www.harfordhelps.com to find a non-profit who accepts large appliance donations.
  • Do you accept food or clothing?
    No, we do not. Please visit www.harfordhelps.com to find a non-profit who accepts donations of food and clothing.
  • Do you pick up or deliver?
    Yes, BUT we strongly encourage you to make transportation arrangements if possible. Because Fresh Start is a 100% volunteer-based organization, pick-up and delivery wait times can vary based on client need, volunteer readiness, storage space, and vehicle availability. Wait time for pick-up and delivery from Fresh Start averages anywhere from 3-6 weeks.
  • Do you disassemble furniture?
    No we do not. Please disassemble items as necessary and include the parts (screws, washers, etc.) in a clearly-labeled baggie. Instructions for assembly are not necessary, but certainly appreciated.
  • Can I stop by the showroom with my donation?
    No, not without an appointment. Because we are a 100% volunteer-run organization, our showroom is not always staffed. Therefore, all donations must be made by appointment only. Please call 443-519-2464 to schedule an appointment.
  • How long do I have to wait for my donation pick-up?
    3-6 weeks on average. Because Fresh Start is a 100% volunteer-based organization, pick-up and delivery wait times can vary based on client need, volunteer readiness, storage space, and vehicle availability.
  • What area do you serve?
    Fresh Start Furnishings serves those in need in Harford County. Upon referral, we collaborate with individuals, churches, and organizations outside of Harford County.
  • Do you re-assemble furniture?
    No we do not, but we do try our best to make sure all the pieces are available and stay together. If you receive disassembled furniture and believe there may be missing pieces, please call Evelyn McSorley at 443-519-2464.
  • Can I stop by the showroom to get furniture?
    No, not without an appointment. Because we are a 100% volunteer-run organization, our showroom is not always staffed. Anyone receiving help through Fresh Start Furnishings must make an appointment to receive furniture. Please call 443-519-2464 to schedule an appointment
  • Can I get additional furniture if I see something I like?
    No. We do our best to ensure we have the requested items available for every client we schedule. The inventory you see during your visit may already by reserved for another client scheduled to come in. If you do see other items you are in need of during your visit, please call 443-519-2464 to schedule a new appointment.
  • Do you hold items in reserve if I'm not ready to receive furniture yet?
    No. We try our best to serve clients in a timely manner and must keep a predictable, consistent flow of inventory.
  • My friend needs help. Can I pick up something extra while I'm there?
    No. Anything you see outside of what has been reserved for you may already have been reserved by another client. The clients we serve through Fresh Start often come to us through referral: if you know of someone in need, please have them call 443-519-2464, or visit www.harfordhelps.com to connect them to the resources they need.
  • I don't NEED furniture, but I'm looking to replace some I have. Is that possible?
    No. We provide free furniture for those in need. Our ministry exists to serve those who don't have any furniture at all.
  • You don't have the item I need. Is there a waiting list?
    Yes! Evelyn McSorley, our donations coordinator, would be happy to add you to an item's waiting list. We will contact you when that item becomes available. Please note that the most highly requested items are beds, and the average wait time for a mattress may be 2-4 weeks.
  • How long do I have to wait for furniture delivery?
    3-6 weeks on average. Because Fresh Start is a 100% volunteer-based organization, pick-up and delivery wait times can vary based on client need, volunteer readiness, storage space, and vehicle availability. If possible, we encourage clients to find outside transportation if they need delivery sooner.
  • How do I qualify to receive free furniture?
