When Maria walked through the doors of Fresh Start Furnishings, she wasn’t just looking for furniture. She was starting over.
After spending time away caring for her brother during cancer treatment, Maria returned home to Harford County with her daughters, ready to rebuild her life. As a single mom, she came back with a clear goal in mind. She wants to finish nursing school and create a better future for her family.
But starting over came with real challenges.
“It's been difficult,” she shared. “I’m starting from the bottom. All my cash is for rent and gas to go to work.”
With so much of her income going toward basic necessities, there wasn’t much left to turn an empty space into a home. That is where Fresh Start Furnishings stepped in.
For Maria, this support means more than furniture. It brings stability, dignity, and one less thing to worry about as she focuses on what matters most.
And she is not just thinking about today. She is looking ahead. My goal is to finish nursing school and help my daughter go to veterinary school.”
Even in the middle of starting over, Maria is building toward something bigger for herself and for her children. When asked what she is grateful for, her answer was simple.
“I’m happy to have found this program and receive the help that I need. Thank you.”
Stories like Maria’s are a reminder that behind every home we furnish, there is a family working hard to move forward. A parent pushing through challenges. A future being rebuilt piece by piece.
At Fresh Start Furnishings, it is never just about furniture. It is about helping families turn a new chapter into a fresh start.
